Carmanah has received orders from roadway agencies in California to install 14 units of its R247C solar flashing beacons. These will be installed at various all-way-stops in three California cities.
Carmanah’s R247C flashing beacons will be used to address visibility problems at various all-way-stop locations, where stop signs are not being acknowledged and drivers are running through the intersections.
Carmanah’s R247C flashing beacons utilize Carmanah’s solar-powered LED lighting and patented MICROSOURCE® power management; this core technology is field-proven in more than 150,000 installations in 110 countries. R247C beacons are engineered to flash 24 hours per day, 365 days per year for up to five years with no scheduled maintenance and they automatically adjust to prevailing solar conditions to ensure continuous, dependable operation.
R247C flashing beacons are a fast, cost-effective and reliable solution for improving sign visibility and driver compliance at all-way-stop intersections. As they are ultra-compact and completely self-contained, they can be installed in minutes onto standard sign posts with minimal technical expertise.
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), published by The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), includes all the placement standards for the traffic control devices. The standard sign codes that Carmanah’s beacons are used with are:
- Stop R1-1
- 4-Way R1-3
- All Way R1-4
- Stop Ahead (symbol) W3-1
- Stop Ahead W3-1a
The R247C conforms to all MUTCD standards for Flashing Beacons as specified in the current edition of the MUTCD – 2003 Edition Revision 1. The R247C is the only MUTCD compliant Solar Flashing Beacon that is fully self-contained and can be mounted on standard 2″ signposts.
With its self-contained, ultra-compact and cost-effective design, Carmanah’s R247C also lends itself to temporary installations. Some traffic agencies are using them on new stop signs to draw attention to the change in traffic control.
