Carmanah’s Solar LED Flashers Installed in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina

Carmanah has received an order from the Mississippi Department of Transportation (DOT) for 8 units of its R247C solar-powered LED roadway flasher. These units will be installed for trial purposes in areas of Mississippi that were affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of Mississippi’s roadway electrical infrastructure. To increase traffic safety in the quickest and most cost-effective way, the Mississippi DOT ordered Carmanah’s R247C solar flashers for installation at various roadway intersections.

Carmanah’s R247C solar flashers are ideal for improving driver safety, as they can be installed quickly onto standard 2″ square or 2 1/2″ round posts in the field. Mississippi DOT was also attracted to the self-contained and ultra-compact design of the R247C unit that includes the solar engine with all batteries, electronics and solar panels integrated into a single housing.

The R247C is the most compact and efficient solar LED flasher available on the market, and does not require large solar panels and external battery cabinets typical of traditional non-integrated solar flashers.
