The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is using Carmanah technology to enhance safety at a busy highway intersection. The rush order for Carmanah R247C solar-powered flashing beacons came in response to a recent rash of traffic incidents at the location. The site of three accidents and one fatality within a month, the intersection was a topic of significant concern for motorists and city officials.
To increase safety at the intersection, the ODOT installed Carmanah flashing beacons on “Intersection Ahead” warning signs. The R247C solar-powered beacons offer high visibility industry-standard 12″ flashing lights (designed in compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices `MUTCD` standards). With a compact self-contained design, the R247C beacons install easily onto existing signposts, requiring no digging, trenching or wiring. Once installed, the solar beacons start working immediately, helping to draw drivers’ attention to warning signs, and alert them to potentially dangerous conditions ahead.
For this location, the flashing beacons were deemed an urgent requirement, and Carmanah delivered the equipment through its authorized Oregon dealer, Western Systems, within two business days. The quick delivery and easy installation helped the Department of Transportation provide an immediate safety enhancement at the intersection.
